We’re so excited to introduce our new 80% 1911 frames and 1911 Build Kits – but why should you build your own 1911? Why not a Glock, or an AR-15? Why not just buy a 1911 off the shelf? All great question, with some surprising answers. Keep reading to learn why, yes, you should build a 1911!
#1: You Get More Gun for Less Cash
The 1911 market is saturated with low-grade shooters and collector’s pieces alike. Given the fact that the 1911 platform is surprisingly non-standardized, it can be difficult finding a decent piece for the right price.
But building your 1911 guarantees you’re getting the most reliable, accurate, and familiar handgun you can get your hands on. Because you’re completing the final machining steps yourself, you get to ensure quality is up to snuff. You get to fit the slide, barrel, and frame perfectly. You get to make sure that trigger’s seated and polished to perfection.
#2: Our 80% 1911 Frames and Kits are Top-Tier
Okay, so what about that other 80%? Is the quality worth the price? Each of our 1911 frames is manufactured from mil-spec, 7075 T6 forged aluminum – the same stuff most militaries demand in their rifles. This is a huge improvement over the 1911’s original steel frame, with weight reduced by 60%!
All other components are made in the U.S.A. by Stealth Arms, using only mil-spec 4140 Chromoly steel or mil-spec 7075 T6 aluminum. Every kit is also guaranteed with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. With comparable 1911s selling off the shelf for over $1,000, our build kits provide value in addition to the fun of the build.
#3: You Get the 1911 YOU Want!
Remember how the 1911 is not at all standardized? Chances are, buying a 1911 off the shelf will mean sacrificing a feature or compromising on a particular spec. You can easily avoid all this by building your own 1911 from a 1911 80 lower.
You pick the size, caliber, and configuration with our 1911 Build Kits. Want a high-capacity, compact piece for concealed carry? Check out our 9mm Commander 1911 Build Kit! Want an O.G. shooter for the least cash possible? Our .45 ACP Government 5” Bead Blasted Kit is the quickest and cheapest way to build.
#4: Building Your 1911 Requires NO FFL or Fees!
That’s right – building a 1911 at home can be done without the need to visit an FFL. You don’t need to fill out any paperwork, complete any background checks, or deal with any fees or waiting periods. The ATF even states you can build a firearm at home in all 50 states!
Check your local and state laws first – some states require you to fill out their own paperwork, or submit documentation for a serial number before building.
This all means you can order a complete 1911 Build Kit and go from a box of parts to a functional, high-quality gun in a single afternoon.
#5: Building Your 1911 is Easy!
We mean it when we say it only takes a single afternoon to machine and assemble your home-built 1911. Completing your 1911 requires four simple machining steps: Drill the hammer pin hole, drill the sear pin hole, cut the slide’s frame rails, and cut the barrel seat.
Using a jig, each of these machining tasks takes just a few minutes. Thanks to included instructions and video tutorials, you don’t need any experience, whatsoever. Check out our 1911 Frame and Jig Combos to see just how easy it is!
