The Easy Jig Gen 2 has quickly taken the 80 lower market by storm! It promises AR-15 builders with a quick, precise unit that can spit out one stripped receiver after the next. If you’re not sure what an 80 lower jig is, learn about how to use them to build your AR-15 here. And if you were worried about legality, the ATF says this is all legal to do. It’s also safe and easy to do! No experience is required, and you don’t need to be a pro machinist. Now, here’s our next 80 Lower Jig Spotlight: The Easy Jig Gen 2!
80 Lower Jig Spotlight: The Easy Jig Gen 2
The Easy Jig Gen 2 is the latest and greatest for a few reasons! Built on the Easy Jig Gen 1’s foundation, the Gen 2 took customer feedback and made some improvements. The results are impressive:
- Completes an 80% lower in 30 minutes or less
- Now requires 90% less drilling than other jigs
- No disassembly is required to remove your lower
- Swap lowers and calibers in less than 10 seconds
- Reduces clean-up with new shop vac attachment
- Now compatible AR-15 and AR-9 80% lowers
Overall, the Easy Jig Gen 2 makes good on its name by providing better capability. The Gen 2 is now one of the fastest 80 lower jigs you can find. If you’re a pro builder and you want things to go lightning-quick, the Gen 2 is where it’s at. We particularly like the new design because you no longer have to disassemble your jig when you’re finished. This eliminates the risk of a poor setup. Once you have everything set, you can just keep machining lower after lower!
Compatible with AR-15 and AR-9 80% lowers
With the introduction of the AR-9 lower, it only made sense for the Easy Jig to be compatible. If you’re ready to build a proper AR-9 (without a conversion kit or dismantling and modifying your upper and lower), then the Easy Jig Gen 2 has you covered. In fact, the Gen 2’s 100% compatible with all AR-15 and AR-9 lowers! Once machined, the AR-9 lower is compatible with standard AR-15 Lower Parts Kits, making it an easy way to build a new configuration without investing in proprietary (expensive) parts.
The Easy Jig Gen 2 is now stronger
The Gen 2 iteration of the Easy Jig incorporates some big upgrades to its guide plates. A new, no-tough router plate also eliminates the risk of tool-on-tool contact. The Gen 2’s guide plates have also been reinforced and hardened, improving jig life and reducing the risk of a catastrophic failure when small mistakes are made. This saves you money by not having to scrap a bad 80% lower (or scraping your jig’s plates) because of a small mishap.
The Gen 2 is now fool-proof
We particularly love the new Easy Jig because of its self-guiding plates and reinforced drill guides. This eliminates the need for a drill press! Since most of us don’t have access to commercial machining equipment, the Gen 2 offers a huge advantage. All you need is a handheld router and a handheld drill.
The Gen 2’s drill depth guides help you set your end mill bit for each pass, which eliminates the for measuring or making calculations on X,Y, and Z axes. Face it, you don’t want to do any math while you’re trying to machine metal.
An 80 lower jig with the right tools
The folks who designed the Easy Jig Gen 2 took care to make sure that it really is the easiest-to-use 80 lower jig on the market. They threw in the necessary drill bits and end mill bit you need to complete your lower!
- (1) 3/8″ Drill Bit
- (1) 5/32″ Drill Bit
- (1) 21/64″ Drill Bit
- (1) 5/16″ End Mill Bit w/ 1/4″ Shank (for compact router)
If that wasn’t enough, the Easy Jig Gen 2’s tooling is also available for purchase separately. It’s recommend to have at least one set of bits for every three 80% lowers you complete. If you need replacement bits, grab ’em here for a couple bucks.
